Hell, well, it's my site, so I thought I would recommend some stuff I love. Here you'll find my favorite books, complete with convenient links, in case you want to buy something. I'm not getting paid for promoting this stuff. I just want to because I love them!

They Cage The Animals At Night

This is truly one of my favorite books. I read it back in 6th grade, and I still love it. This is not a kid's book. This is a story of a boy who really had it tough growing up with his brothers in NYC. It's very sad in parts, but uplifting too. I've read it a few times, because I love it so much. The writing is easy to get through, and it's just a really great story all the way through.

These are the three volumes of the Nightrunner series, which, I might add, is NOT a trilogy. The first two books go together, and, while it's best to read the first two first, the third one can stand on it's own. Anyway, I totally devoured these books. I read the first one in three days and the second two in three as well. They are GREAT. The characters are great. I just *love* Seregil. And I love Alec and Thero as well. The books are funny, and full of adventure and action. They're descriptive without being overly so, and they have their cute moments as well. I might add that there is a *slash* motif going in all three books... Slash is male/male in case you don't know. In the first it's practically non-existant, in the second it's definitely there, and it's *really* there in the third. Still, it's not there so much that someone who doesn't like yaoi or slash won't like them. Getting to the point, these books are about two guys mostly: Seregil and Alec. Seregil rescues Alec from a prison in the first book, and their relationship quickly changes as they grow to be friends and then from there... Along the way they have to uncover a devious plot as Seregil teaches Alec the tricks of his trade as a nightrunner and a Watcher. The third book deals a lot with Seregil's past, and continues with the war that began in the previous books as well. Stalking Darkness is my favorite of the three, and it's the darkest as well. But I very highly recommended this series. I was never obsessed with a book before I read these. ^^ These books got me reading again.

Shadows of the Empire
By: Steve Perry

This is a Star Wars book, so if you don't like Star Wars, you won't like this book. This is my favorite Star Wars book ever, and it takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Retun of the Jedi. It deals with trying to get Han back, and the plans of a devious (but really cool!) Prince. The book is not too politically burdened, as Star Wars books tend to get, and there's plenty of action. The original characters are portrayed accurately and the original characters are awesome. This book is entertaining from cover to cover. Any Star Wars fan will love it.

By: Kevin J. Anderson

More Star Wars books, and this is a trilogy. My favorite at that. Kevin J. Anderson is a great writer who does not let the politics of the land of Star Wars get in his way. These books are pure action. The character portrayal is accurate, and his original characters are some of the best ever introduced to the Star Wars universe through a book. I mean, come on, Admiral Daala rocks! These books are about Luke's restarting of the training of Jedi, while the New Republic has to deal with a horrible new weapon called the "Sun Crusher" that has the power to destroy entire systems. Then one of Luke's apprentices falls to the Dark Side of the Force. Can it get any worse?! Well this series is definitely one that makes you want to scream. But it's great. Dark Apprentice is one of the darkest and most depressing Star Wars books I've ever read, but it's great all the same. If you like Star Wars, you'll love the Jedi Academy Trilogy.

The Scarlet Pimpernel

Another of my favorites. I usually hate old books, but this one, from around the turn of the century, is great. It's not overly descriptive and the language does not weigh you down at all. The Scarlet Pimpernel is full of romance and action. It seems an englishman has been going to Paris and stealing people away from the blade of the guillotine during the French Revolution. This man calls himself "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and no one knows who he is. Marguerite, a French actress turned wife of a wealthy British man, finds herself stuck in discovering the identity of this man at fear of blackmail from an old "friend" named Chauvelin. This book will definitely keep you guessing. And it's not very long either.

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

ISBN: 006092988X

Another classic, and one of the few books I was forced to read in school that I actually liked. This story follows the life of Francie Nolan, a girl growing up in a poor part of Brooklyn with her drunk waiter of a father, her strong mother and her younger brother. She leads an interesting life, supported by her colorful family members, that will keep you turning pages. It's sad, funny and inspiring. It's long, but it's definitely a good read.

The Things They Carried
By: Tim O'Brien

ISBN: 0767902890

Another one I had to read in school, but another one I enjoyed. This book is a collection of short stories written by the author, a veteran of the Vietnam war. Some of the stories are true, and some are not, but they will all touch you. I know it got to me. This book almost made me cry, and I *never* cry. Definitely a good read.

An Arrow's Flight

Okay, if you can't handle yaoi, stay very far away from this book. And I mean VERY far. The author of this book is gay, and he kind of assumes the reader is, but it came across my path and I read it, cause obviously that stuff doesn't bother me. So, if you like yaoi, you should like this book. I loved it. It takes characters from Greek myth and puts them in modern times, making most of them gay in the process. The sexual content is kind of heavy compared to any other mainstream book I've read, but if you can read yaoi lemon, it's a walk in the park. The concept may sound a little weird, but the author pulls it off.

Can I stress how I love this series enough? The beginning of the first book starts off a little slow, but it picks up quickly. I can't decide which of the books I love more, they're all so wonderful. This is another fantasy series with slash. The first book, Magic's Pawn, starts off with young Vanyel, a boy who feels isolated and hated by his family because he can't live up to their image of him. He's sent away to live with his Aunt, a herald-mage, in Haven, the capital. There he learns a lot about himself....and love. I'll refrain from giving any more away, but let me say that these books are full of heartbreaking moments that make you laugh, more that make you smile, and some that are just *so* sweet. I really LOVE this series and totally recommend it. Let me say to pay very close attention to everything that happens, especially in the first book. Trust me on that.
